Woot for the homeland!
Very interesting. I wonder what other big engineering or
manufacturing firms in Michigan use a lot of Linux.

The company I work for uses mostly Linux for it's server backend. Or they
do now that I'm here, anyway. =P

I cant really get away from Windows though. Three are a lot of vendor sites
that require IE, and Office 2007 also has proprietary lock-ins now.

I would be eternally happy if I could run linux on everything here.

For vendors that require IE just use facsimile instead and let them
know why. If they don't like ridiculously old standards like
facsimile then they should update their web site to use modern web
standards instead of proprietary ones.

Well, I may have mis-spoken in that wording. It's *chrysler* who requires
IE.

"Hi. Yes, we sell you parts. Oh, and by the way, we want you to change
your internal standards to suit us. Thanks!" =P

i use IE4Linux if I run into a non fire-fox friendly site, they're
working on IE 7, but you can get 6 up and running nicely under wine.
nothing to say on office, though, except that it's a rip off.
