Hey, everyone,

We're about 1/6th of the way through 2012 already (where did it all go?) and we're four months into the Precise Pangolin cycle which means it's time for thinking about the Global Jam (in March) and the release party (in April).

Global Jam 3/2012
-----------------

The Global Jam (started in our great state of Michigan) is a chance for folks from around the globe to take part in activities to help smooth out the upcoming release. We'll be meeting at SRT Solutions office in Ann Arbor (206 S. Fifth Ave. Ann Arbor, MI 48104) on Saturday, March 3rd, from 12-5pm. Bring a USB stick and a computer to work with as we poke and prod Precise Pangolin properly through it's paces. (See what I did there?)

More information about the overall global jam can be found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuGlobalJam

RSVP so we can get a decent head count here: http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ubuntu-michigan/1526/detail/

Penguicon Release Party
-----------------------

Since Penguicon and the release of Precise Pangolin coincide again, we'll once again have the release party at Penguicon. Plans at the moment are to meet around 7pm at the hotel restaurant / bar area. Space may be a bit limited, so we'll play it by ear.

RSVP here: http://loco.ubuntu.com/events/ubuntu-michigan/1561/detail/

Hope to see you at these events!

Canonical was talking about doing away with CD-size installs. Has that
happened this cycle? If so, what size flash drive do we need?

I'd say 1GB should suffice. If I think about it beforehand, I may pick
up some of them over at Microcenter. I don't think they're that
expensive anymore.

Install documentation for the 11.10 Release of Ubuntu Desktop requires 2
GB sticks.

The stick I created for a Kubuntu 11.10 64-bit install was 1.2 GB in
allocated space.

I'll be doing a bit of testing to verify this.

Just double checked my stick and I did mis-read the report on space. 1.2GB
*free* on a 2GB stick. Actual size is 715MB. This was created from an ISO
that is 699MB in size.

If you actually find a bunch of 1GB sticks, I'd be interested in the
location and price.
