Just to keep everyone informed on the approval process: The date has
been set for the next Community Council meeting (where teams/members
go for approval).

It is THIS Thursday at 11am EST (yeah, a little short notice) in the
#ubuntu-meeting channel on Freenode.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their
awesomeness. That's right, everyone has been great and awesome.
Especially since I started the team (more, rejuvanated it) when I
first moved to Michigan, knowing no one local. Now the team
officially has 71 members and has done some great stuff with even
greater plans.

Keep rocking it!

I've read the approval application, but what is this an approval for?
Is it an approval for the group to exist?

Good question! As I understand it (and I may well be off-base), this
is like a certification that we meet the Ubuntu LoCo standards. It is
our transition from "unofficial LoCo" to "official LoCo". Aside from
that, I'm not exactly sure. If we get approval, does anything change?
If we fail to get approval, does that really change anything either?

You're basically right. This approval means we are an "official loco
team" in the eyes of Canonical.

The tangible thing that changes with approved status is we can get
larger orders of CDs and also other goodies from Canonical (like a big
banner for a booth).

Intangibly we get more "cred." By that I mean if we need to work with
any organizations we can tell them that we are an officially
recognized team etc which might help reassure them of our
professionalism.

Hope that helps,

greg
