I surfed with Firefox for a few minutes, and the mouse stopped
working. I ran updates a second time, and it went through another
download and install process. I restarted, and the mouse was working
again. Again I surfed with Firefox for a few minutes, and the mouse
stopped working. Now there are no more updates to be had. Could it be
Firefox?

The updates worked! Thank you! -Matt
I dual-boot Ubuntu and Windows XP. When I boot up Ubuntu, my left
mouse button doesn't work at all. Under Windows, the whole mouse works
fine. It is a Logitech wireless optical mouse. The computer is a Dell
Inspiron E1505 laptop. I disabled the trackpad in both Windows and
Ubuntu, because the left trackpad button constantly misfires. Can
anyone tell me a fix that doesn't involve the left mouse button? I
don't know any keyboard shortcuts to get into a terminal.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
and that should have updates if you haven't done so yet.

Process of elimination. Try other software to find conditions that may reveal the root cause. Perhaps another browser, other editors . . . try a wired mouse if you have one.

Bring it to the "mdlug.org" meeting Saturday.
